Behaviour Advisor

Field-based, 12 months, renewable

Context

To fulfill its mission of assistance to victims of conflicts, epidemics or natural disasters, MSF-Switzerland has created an Emergency Pool, of which members are emergency-experienced individuals capable of evaluating an emergency situation, opening and coordinating emergency projects. The post of Behaviour Advisor reports directly to the Emergency Coordinator and to the Emergency Cell (Operations Department at headquarters in Geneva).

The candidate is expected to

• work in all contexts set by the emergency cell
• work in emergency contexts with regular cells and fill gaps in regular projects if needed.

Role

The main objectives of the Responsible Behaviour Advisor are to engage with senior management on the strategy to implement the Behavioural Commitments in MSF emergency projects; to engage on the prevention of abuse, to set up safe reporting channels and create a safe environment for staff, patients and communities particularly at the start of an emergency. The role is a combination of direct hands-on implementation, creation of tools/processes and development of capacity within the teams.

Duty Station

All countries where the emergency desk opens activities, which require an urgent response. On call, the Emergency Behaviour Advisor should be available within 48 hours for rapid and short interventions. He/she is part of a core group of medicals, para-medicals, logisticians responsible for responding, amongst others, to:

• epidemic outbreaks
• nutritional crises
• displaced populations and/or refugees’ camps
• conflict contexts
• natural disasters
• exploratory missions
• Capacity building

Your Profile

• Minimum experience of 24 months of international field experience with MSF or another organization
• Previous professional experience in Operational roles (Head of Mission, Project Coordinator etc) is highly valued
• University degree in Social Science, Law , Education or Social Communication is desirable.
• Consideration to those with backgrounds in international relations or any other relevant subject.
• Previous professional experience in safeguarding is a plus
• General knowledge of MSF in emergency management

Skills

• Proven capacity for coordination and organization
• Capacity to work in a volatile, insecure context and deal with stress.
• Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team.
• Availability, flexibility, mobility
• Fluency in both French and English is essential.
• Other languages represent an advantage: Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese

Terms of Employment

• Field-based contract, fixed-term for one year, renewable.
• Duration of the direct interventions in the field: from 6 weeks to 3 months (certain flexibility is asked in case of needs)
• Per-diem, accommodation, travel arrangements, visa requirement will be taken in charge from MSF and in the field during your assignments.
