Chemonics seeks a Regional Technical Senior Specialist – Markets and Trade (RTSS-M&T) to be based in Amman, Jordan for the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) 8 Decision Support (DS) project. The RTSS–M&T will work with the Regional Technical Lead (RTL), the rest of the technical specialists in the regional team, the country teams in the region, the M&T team in Washington, D.C., other mechanisms across the FEWS NET 8 project, and network partners to design, execute, and coordinate regional activities in the M&T technical area. These activities will include but are not limited to M&T data collection and quality assurance, providing sectoral technical assistance and guidance to country teams, preparing regional decision-support products, and strengthening capacity to conduct relevant market analyses both inside and outside FEWS NET. The RTSS–M&T will contribute to providing high-quality and effective early warning of threats to food security and support efforts to mitigate food insecurity and prevent food crises through the provision of actionable food security analysis. The RTSS-M&T works under the technical supervision of the M&T advisor, with administrative management provided by the RTL. Interested applicants must currently, and in the future, have legal authorization to work in Jordan.
While the preference is for candidates to be based in Jordan, highly qualified candidates who have legal work authorization and are based in other select countries in which FEWS NET 8 operates in may be considered. Countries are as follows:

FEWS NET is an integrated set of activities funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is intended to provide timely, accurate, evidence-based, and transparent food security early warning information and analysis. The eighth phase of FEWS NET includes the Decision Support (DS) project which is charged with providing integrated monitoring and analyses of current and forecast acute food insecurity in countries worldwide to support the USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) policy and programmatic decisions. Based on an in-depth understanding of local livelihoods, the FEWS NET DS Team members monitor information and data on factors that affect food security, such as conflict, weather conditions and climate, crops, pasture, markets and trade, and nutrition. The work of the FEWS NET DS Team relies on close collaboration with international, regional, and national partners on food security data and information gathering and analysis. Major activities include joint monitoring and assessments, data sharing and exchanges, collaborative analysis and reporting, and technical capacity strengthening.
