VBE and Play Copy Editor Freelance

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private not-for profit, non-denominational international development agencies, institutions and programmes that work primarily in the poorest parts of Africa and Asia to improve the quality of life of communities in remote and resource poor areas. In East Africa, AKF works with partners to improve the quality of life by promoting and developing innovative solutions to challenges of development in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Reflecting the complex and multi-faceted nature of development, AKF programmes in the region encompass education, health, Early Childhood Development, Rural Development and Civil Society Strengthening. AKF is seeking a consultant to work as part of a diverse team of ECD, Education, adult learning, and Civil Society specialists to design, pilot, iterate, and complete a capacity development package for Civil Society Organisations to integrate learning through play into their Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programming.

AKF has been developing the Values Based Education (VBE) modules and Playful Pedagogies courses. The modules will enable teachers and schools to better support the socio-emotional needs of all children in their duty of care and apply play-based learning to respond to the pandemic in the first instance effectively and the effects of displacement as well as implement the CBC. As part of this, AKF committed to re-designing the materials to be more usable as we have now finalised the content.

It is expected for the consultant or organisation to:

• Collaborate with AKF to copy-edit and finalise the content for all VBE and Playful Pedagogies materials

Finalised copy-edited documents for all VBE and playful pedagogies documents ensuring the consistent use of language. These are:

• VBE Modules 1-4 (approx. 50-60 pages each)
• VBE Accelerated Process- VBE compact module (approx. 60 pages with many repeatable assets)
• VBE Master Facilitators course (approx. 80 pages)
• Playful Pedagogies course (approx. 60 pages)
• VBE introduction document (approx. 4 pages)

Workplan

Present design concepts to AKF for finalisation of design concept – Week 1

Submit final draft design of one VBE and one Play material – Week 2

Incorporate feedback and deliver all final documents – Week 4
